Transcendental hygienist urges patients to shift flossing paradigm

WATERBURY, Conn. – When people visit dental hygienist Dwight Flowers, they will get the usual advice about flossing regularly. But Flowers, a student of American Transcendentalism, urges his patients to look beyond the simple task of flossing and discover the spiritual aura created by its physical task.

“The journey of flossing defines who we are,” said Flowers, who hopes to help his patients break free from the doctrines of established tooth care. “The traditional methods tell you that floss spirituality comes from outside one’s self, but I encourage my patients to look within and find their own flossing way.”

Though raised under the teachings of intellectualistic dental hygiene, Flowers began to break away from the Unitarian stance that there is only one true way to floss and explored tooth maintenance that came from his inner mental essence.

Most patients report a session with Flowers opens their eyes to a new dogma of dental cleansing. “Before Dwight, I just accepted the way I flossed as truth, without asking questions,” said Tim Recker, a recent Flowers patient. “I understand now that by centering myself and focusing my inner spirit, I open a new state of flossing existence.”

Flowers added, “With the right concentration and inner reflection, anyone can create a flossing utopia within themselves.”
