Those madcap Zimbabwean loyalists will amputate just about anything to steal a headline

I find it too difficult to even watch what is going on in Zimbabwe these days. Mugabe henchmen running about beating and intimidating their own citizens. Depraved. Immoral. Disgusting.

These are the only words I am moved to when I think about the tragic ways in which these zany Mugabe loyalists are hogging the headlines night in and night out, wasting a precious half minute of airtime wasted on our local news.

For years now, Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has dispatched his wacky henchmen around his country in an effort to stay in headline power, a tyrannical regime of hard to pronounce names and regions that play havoc with the broadcasting professionalism in which our newscasts are rooted.

It seems like each day they come up with even more off the wall, screwball ways to slip themselves into the final moments of our 10 o’clock show. Whether it’s beating sympathetic children or violently amputating the left arm of a dissenting Zimbabwean voter, these guys with their loony physical persecutions are worse attention hogs than Gallagher with his watermelons.

And yet the international community seems unable to do anything about this. These atrocities must not continue. How hard can it be to get the cameras out of Zimbabwe so we don’t have to see these things on the news?

And all we can do is sit idly by and watch as a nation most of us would never have to know about grabs precious seconds of our news each evening.
