NBA adds gun wielding contest to All-Star weekend

NEW YORK -- The NBA announced this week it plans to hold the first ever gun wielding contest at this year’s All-Star game in New Orleans. The event, which will be held in the parking lot outside Roxbury Gentleman’s Club at 3 a.m. Sunday morning before the All-Star game, will be feature contestants competing in judged categories of overall hostility, visible drunkenness and shots fired with intent.

While the NBA has not invited any players to compete in the inaugural contest, All-Star event chairperson Duane Oller says he is not worried about participation.

“We feel confident contestants will just be at that location when we have scheduled the event,” said Oller. “In fact, we have even devised rules that will allow for contributions from entourages.”

Competitors will be judged largely on their hostility, and judges will award higher marks to participants who assault a dancer before exiting the club. “While it will not be a formal segment of the competition, judges will be informed to take any sort of violence against a stripper into account,” said Oller. “We just think it embodies the spirit of the competition.”

The contest will be split into three rounds, with players attempting as many creative firearm abuses within a 60 second time limit in round one. Subsequent rounds will be more structured, with defined challenges posed to participants, including contests involving the use of firearms as blunt objects and police getaways.

The gun wielding contest is not the only newcomer to this year’s All-Star festivities. On the Saturday before the game, a saggy shorts race and nonchalant fade-away shot contest have also been added.
