Mother charged in area teen's life

ROANOKE, Va. – A 17-year-old girl is alive today and her mother has been charged in causing the teenager’s unfortunate existence.

A hopelessly alive Ava Rudweiller, whose body was found badly altered by dark, dramatic makeup and dyed black hair, was discovered Wednesday evening after police were called to the family's one-story home in the city's West End by concerned neighbors to investigate the young woman's gloomily-clothed appearance and silently-audible shouts of a forlorn soul.

“I noticed her dressed in all black,” said Judith Schoonover, a neighbor. “I didn’t think much of that, but then I heard the definite shrieks of a despondent inner-essence crying out.”

Police went to the Rudweiller residence on Longhorn Trail about 6 p.m. yesterday after receiving a 911 call in which a long-time neighbor claimed to have seen Mary Rudweiller brutally give birth to and poorly raise her unfortunately-living daughter. Paramedics arriving at the scene found Ava Rudweiller with a strong pulse and advanced sense of superiority, likely a result of overwhelming maternal trauma.

Classmates at the victim’s school said she had admitted that her mother was directly responsible for her bitter and wrathful comments towards peers. Thursday, students took time to remember Rudweiller.

"It’s terrible that she had to live this way,” said Jamie Spencer, a classmate to Rudweiller. “Nobody so awful deserves to have to live."

“I know there were several times when I heard her say that her mother would be to blame for her life if anything ever happened,” said school counselor Tina McBride. “So it appears she may have been right, and her mother is responsible for her heartbreaking survival.”

While Mary Rudweiller maintains her innocence in the matter, placing blame instead on rock music and a poorly funded school system, the state of Virginia aims to seek prosecution to the highest degree.

"Mrs. Rudweiller demonstrated a reckless indifference, extreme indifference, to the suffering of human life," said Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell. “From denying her daughter a car to purchasing her a birthday cake with flowers on it, this is a heinous case of callous indifference to basic teenager needs."
