Loss of legs poses no immediate impact to local man's lifestyle

CHICAGO – A car accident that pinned local man Alex Mason beneath his car and caused the loss of both of his legs presents no foreseen lifestyle changes for the 29-year-old unemployed actor. When Mason was trapped under more than two tons of wreckage in a single-car crash last month, paramedics were unable to save either of his legs. “I dreaded telling him that he was going to lose his legs,” recalls emergency room surgeon Blake Tripp, “but it didn’t seem to bother him.” Mason, who before the accident spent the majority of his time playing video games, watching television, and unenthusiastically seeking work as an actor has been able to continue doing the things he loves, despite being bound to a wheelchair. “It’s actually more convenient,” said Mason as he almost effortlessly wheeled over to a table that contained a half-eaten bag of Doritos. “I’m better than I’ve ever been at [video game] Halo 3 and I move around while still sitting. How cool is that?”
