July 12, 2007 | Issue 4-33

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Channel 2 News announced last night that beginning next week, in an effort to be the region’s number one source for weather, they will begin broadcasting a 5,000-day forecast nightly. “We’ll lead with the forecast,” said executive producer Wilma MacIntyre. “Then we will go to commercial and keep doing the forecast for the rest of the program.” Competing news programs are said to be scrambling to find a way to keep pace with Channel 2. Channel 5 is expected to unveil an ultra-short forecast, in which viewers will only be given a weather preview of the next several minutes. Meanwhile, Channel 7, often labeled a conservative forecast station, plans only to discuss previous weather and urge viewers to return to the simpler, more wholesome weather of the past.
